Innovative process design for superior rolling and finishing

After billet or thin-slab casting, the steel is rolled into its finished form – whether rebar, wire rod or flat steel – using the very latest rolling or strip mill technology to shape, cut and cool the steel.

Long products rolling mills

For rebar and wire rod production, billets enter a reheating furnace on their way to continuous rolling stands and finishing facilities. Our in-line quick-change rolling mills transform the billets into bars or rods with diameters ranging from 5.5mm to 40mm.

The rebar mills use TEMPCORE heat treatment to produce weldable steel bars to international standards. Product shears cut the rebar into lengths ranging from 6m to 24m. Wire rod in diameters up to 16mm is rolled into two-ton coils.

A controlled cooling system and continuous quality-control monitoring ensure that rebar and wire rod is produced with excellent surface quality and dimensional accuracy.

Flat steel hot strip mills

Ezz Steel’s hot strip mills produce hot-rolled coil (HRC) using leading Compact Strip Production (CSP) technology from SMS Demag and flexible Thin Slab Casting and Rolling (fTSCR) technology from Danieli.

Automation technology is used to control all process parameters, producing steel strip with consistent width, thickness and flatness characteristics, as well as superior surface quality. The metallurgical properties of the steel are controlled through a laminar cooling system, which influences the steel microstructure and results in excellent, predictable mechanical properties in the finished product.

By combining proven technology with innovative plant design, Ezz Steel offers the operational flexibility required to produce strip thicknesses from just 1.0mm up to 16.0mm, in coil widths from 900mm to 1600mm.
